SMYLe's short video project saw its official launch on 11th June 2004 at the Dylan Thomas Centre. All the kids who took part in this exciting and unique project were invited along with their family and friends.
The launch day included a brief introduction to SMYLe and its current achievements and progress, live nasheed performance by local youth, light food and of course the premier showing of SMYLe's video.
This film was funded by the Arts council through REACT. The aim of the video is to give non-Muslims an insight to the life of an average Muslim Youth life.
We plan to distribute copies of the documentary along with a SMYLe schools resource pack (inc a copy of the Quran and other informative materials) to schools in the area so they may integrate it with their religious education. One of our aims as a group is to encourage racial harmony through educating our young to the differences in society they are more likely to accept different cultures and customs. SMYLe is one of the most ethnically diverse Muslim Group in Wales, our members come from various cultural and races backgrounds and is made up of a healthy gender balance.
The second aim of this documentary was to give a project to the youth members which they all enjoyed doing and where very excited about. Also give then valuable experience in media, and hopefully encourage an interest in journalism and media which currently lacks Muslim presence. Also in Swansea there are not many services catered for the minorities. Therefore, SMYLe, as a community organisation is responsible for seeing to their needs. However, this can only be achieved by the help of the community. Those who feel that they can help, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. A full web-viewable version of the video will be available soon.
